JUDGING TRACKING

Tracking is a sport where the dog uses its natural ability to track a “lost person” by scent through the bush and over variable terrain.  It’s a great way of keeping fit as well as having fun.

Tracking is a sport that takes up a lot of your time, but it is very rewarding. 

Watching a dog take the scent from the article at the start, locate the track and put its nose down and start to track is a wonderful sight.   The dog using his nose to find the scent which humans cannot detect, is one of nature’s miracles.

Tracking is very addictive! 

Have you handled a dog through the various tests in a Tracking Trial?  Do you love the sport and not mind all the hours required to plan, map and lay tracks?  If you answered Yes to these questions, perhaps you are now ready to give something back to the sport and become a Tracking Judge.

Being a Tracking Judge requires time and effort and a very good understanding of what ‘scent’ is all about…….. but it is just so rewarding.

The excitement shown by the dog that it has, using its own natural ability, located the ‘lost person’ is one of the most breathtaking sights you could ever wish to see.
